Casa Lemurzone has an almost flat roof which had roll roofing and 'trailer coating' applied to it. The sun beats up this combination over time. Plus it leaks, and requires a lot of maintenence, of which I am not budgeting any time for.
I am having the lads of Economy Roofing, (602)863-9555 cover it with a Foam Roof. Foam roofing has a number of outstanding characteristics.
1. it is monolithic/1 piece, which means no seams, to leak.
2. It insulates, having an R-Value of about 7 per inch which helps with heating and cooling, reducing energy costs and over time pays for itself.
3. In addition to it's R-Value it also adds a layer of sound proofing, which in my case is a great thing as I am directly under one of the landing patterns of Sky Harbor Airport.
4. The final coating is a brilliant white, which reduces heat gain, adding yet another energy saving feature.
The lads are cutting and sealing the bulges and seam separations from the roll roofing, in preparation to begin the foam roof process.
In the background you can see where they have lifted the heating/cooling unit to install the foam pad underneath it. This is done to make the foam roof one piece.
Getting suited up for the foaming process. Until it cures foam is a real sticky business.
Here you can see the paper used around the perimeter of the roof to protect the adjacent areas from overspray. On the left side of the picture is a piece of poly sheeting that is used to create the pad that will go under the heating/cooling unit.
Here the foam pad for thr heating/cooling unit is being created. Did I mention that it this foam expands and cures in under One minute?
It took longer to measure and cut the pad than it did to create it.
Here the heating cooling unit is getting its foam feet. This pad will be sealed and the foam will meet it, providing a monolithic foam sheet.
Here you can see the foam being built up around the heating/cooling unit as well as around the other roof penetrations such as the electric outlet, and plumbing vent pipes.
Here is the finished Foam. One piece, and I can already here the difference inside as the morning planes are landing. Next is the sealer primer coat.
Here is the priming detail under and around the heating/cooling unit. This is the only hand work done on this job. Everything else is sprayed
The primer is done and drying in preparation to applying the finish coat of brilliant white hypalon. Yes, it is the same material that is used on spark plug wires, with the added benefit of being UV resistant. Sort of like sunscreen for your roof
Here the lad's are putting the final coat on the roof. I told you it was a brilliant white!
